Starting your Child on an Exercise Program:

In today’s world, it would seem that more and more people tend to put exercise on the backburner in favor of more fast paced results to our desires. In recent years, there have been a significant number of diet pills claiming the “true” scientific way to lose weight and gain muscle definition.  Unfortunately, it would seem that this kind of mentality has been passed on to our kids, and that they are finding less motivation to exercise.

The Importance of Getting Kids to Be Active:

Everyone knows that kids should be physically active and need to exercise regularly to be physically fit. Whether they are overweight or at a healthy weight, regular physical activity is considered by most experts to be an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. That doesn’t mean that every child needs to spend four or five hours a day training for the Olympics or practicing with a select baseball or soccer team. Participating in organized youth sports isn’t a requirement for physical activity, as kids can get plenty of exercise during active free play.

The Many Benefits of Exercise:

Everyone can benefit from regular exercise. A child who is active will: have stronger muscles and bones, have a leaner body because exercise helps control body fat, be less likely to become overweight, decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, possibly lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels, have a better outlook on life.In addition to the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better and are better able to handle the physical and emotional challenges that a typical day presents - be that running to catch a bus, bending down to tie a shoe, or studying for a test.

An important way to help your child with weight loss, maintaining a normal weight and develop healthy habits is to encourage him to participate in regular physical activity. This can include participating in a physical education class in school or extracurricular sports at school or in the community.

Why Swimming is good for Your Kids?

To stay happy and healthy, kids should be getting at least half an hour of aerobic exercise every day. If your kids need to get moving, or are just bored with their current exercise program, why not take a trip to the pool.  Swimming is a great way for kids to have fun and stay in great shape.

Rules to live by, if you’re a kid who wants to be fit:

Eat a variety of foods, especially fruits and vegetables. You may have a favorite food, but the best choice is to eat a variety. If you eat different foods, you’re more likely to get the nutrients your body needs. Taste new foods and old ones you haven’t tried for a while. Some foods, such as green veggies, are more pleasing the older you get. Drink water and milk most often. When you’re really thirsty, cold water is the No. 1 thirst-quencher. And there’s a reason your school cafeteria offers cartons of milk. Kids need calcium to grow strong bones, and milk is a great source of this mineral. Limit screen time. Limit screen time. What’s screen time? It’s the amount of time you spend watching TV or DVDs, playing video games.
