Fitness for Pregnancy
Fitness and exercise in pregnancy:
There will be some days in your pregnancy when just getting out of bed can be a challenge so exercise might seem out of the question. But staying active has lots of benefits both during your pregnancy and when it comes to giving birth. Whether you were a regular gym bunny before you got pregnant, or more of a couch potato.
Pregnancy yoga taught with an internal focus benefits the woman’s labor tremendously. The more you are internally connected the more energy you’ll have for the process of labor. You will be able to access energy that you didn’t know you had. It can be an entirely empowering experience. The urge to give up may be at hand but if you’ve focused in a yoga class you’ll know how to do that when the going gets tough. The postures become more than movement that stretch and strengthen the body; they become an anchor for labor. Many students report that they visualized certain postures while in labor to focus the mind and bring them back to the yoga class where they received support.
Benefits of Exercising During Pregnancy:
Look better. Exercise increases the blood flow to your skin, giving you a healthy glow.
Prepare you and your body for birth. Strong muscles and a fit heart can greatly ease labor and delivery. Gaining control over your breathing can help you manage pain. And in the event of a lengthy labor, increased endurance can be a real help.
Staying active while pregnant
Athletic activity is a regular part of many expectant mothers’ lives. During pregnancy, physical fitness activities provided multiple benefits to body and mind: the enjoyment of the activity, better fitness and health, weight management, stress management, improved mood, and body benefits, including improved strength and decreased pain. Exercise can make labor easier, decrease back pain, and make child care less tiring. Although there are some important changes you must make to protect your child, with modifications, most types of exercise can be continued throughout pregnancy.
Exercise is a great way to stay in shape and feel super. Pregnancy does not change this for most women. Despite the differences in your body, exercise is still important. Some studies have suggested that exercise during pregnancy will help with an easier and shorter labor and birth, fewer cesarean surgeries, a quicker recovery postpartum, a quicker return to your pre-pregnancy weight, not to mention a healthier feeling pregnancy.
The Myths of Fitness during Pregnancy:
Pregnancy is a wonderful time to make positive changes as it relates to one’s health. Women quit smoking, quit drinking, and if not affected by morning sickness, strive to eat as healthy as possible. They sense that their healthy habits are not just about them anymore, and they want to do the best they can to give their babies the healthiest start. These positive behavior changes can and should include consistent exercise.
