How To Increase Your Vertical Leap
Strengthening your legs and their fast-twitch muscle fibers can add inches to your vertical jump. Increasing your jump can help you in a number of sports including basketball, volleyball or football. Here are a few easy steps to improve your game and jump higher.
Before starting these exercises, be sure to warm up a little, you can do this by jogging around, jumping rope, or running up stairs for a few minutes and THEN stretching your muscles.
Stomach crunches also help with your vertical leap. Do crunches for aproximently 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night. Lay on your back and rise up high enough for your shoulders to come off the ground.
When performing the squat action, you’ll want to go down as low as possible to increase glute activation, which is a large muscle involved in propulsion.
Calf Strength
Your calf muscles perform that final propulsion into the air, so they need to be trained. To increase their strength, do calf raises off a step; this will increase the muscle’s range of motion. To develop maximum power when springing off the ground, the greater the range of motion, the better.
